Welcome from the Chair of Governors

On behalf of the governing body, I would like to welcome you to Kirby Hill Church of England Primary School.

I am delighted and honoured to be the current Chair of the Governing Body.

We, as governors, are responsible for supporting and challenging the school leadership team, monitoring the quality of teaching and learning, the progress of school improvement and the oversight of behaviour and safeguarding throughout the school. We also monitor the financial side of the school and take part in discussions about how our money is spent.

The Governing Body is committed to working in partnership with the Headteacher and all school staff, as well as the wider community, to achieve our collective aim: to strive for excellence in all areas and ensure that our children can fulfil their true potential.  If you can believe it, you can achieve it.’

When an organisation is united towards one goal, all good things will follow.                                                                          “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”     Psalms 133:1

In the same way as the saying ‘a house is not a home’,  our school is not just about the building and the teaching staff who work within it; our school is about the whole community, all the school staff, volunteers, All Saints’ Church, parents/carers, the wider Kirby Hill community, governors and of course, our children. Our community is built on our seven Christian values of love, respect, friendship, honesty, forgiveness, hope and courage.  This is what makes us so special.

"It takes a village to raise a child" is an African proverb which suggests that an entire community of people must interact with children for those children to experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment.

Parents and carers are key to our community and we strongly encourage parental/carer engagement; we encourage a culture where parents and teachers work in partnership so every child reaches their potential.

Since March 2020 and the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have been living in strange times. We’ve all been affected and all in different ways. Now, more than ever, we need to come together as a community and look out for each other.

‘Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much’ Helen Keller

School may seem different because of the restrictions due to Covid-19 but the school community is still present. Parent governors are often at school during drop-off or pick-up times, please do say hello.

You can also contact the governing board via the Parent Forum email: parentforum@kirbyhill.n-yorks.sch.uk

I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible throughout the school year.

Warm wishes and stay safe,

Laura Angus                                                                                                                                                                                      Chair of Governors
