Effort Shield
Congratulations to Francesca from Elm Class for achieving the Effort Shield in the last week of half term.  Well done!

Parent Consultation Evenings
We appreciate all those who attended Parent Consultation appointments before half term to discuss your child’s progress, achievement and targets.  Thank you too to those who also made arrangements with staff to meet separately if you were unable to make these dates. The staff were delighted with the many positive comments and feedback on the introduction of the Cornerstones curriculum.  The investment in this resource, to which we are extremely grateful to the School Trustees, has been a great success!

Parent Forum Meeting

It was unfortunate that only two parents were able to meet with Mrs Moulton, Mrs Mackay and myself for the Parent Forum meeting held last week on Assessment.  I also had one apology.  Bearing in mind this low response we will avoid the 2.30pm slot in future and a date and time for the summer term’s meeting has yet to be decided.

At the meeting we discussed both our school assessment procedures and national assessments. The PowerPoint shared at the meeting was previously circulated and is on the school website.

School Development Plan
Thank you to all the staff for their continuing hard work to meet all milestones on the School Development Plan.  Last term we worked with the Local Authority English Adviser and had three twilight sessions on ‘Write Away Together’ known as WAT.  This is designed to be used as an intervention for a small group, but the principles can be applied to the teaching of writing and can be used in guided writing wherever it fits into the learning sequence.

The aim is to give children specific praise (verbal and written) so they are clear what they are doing well and importantly encourage children to regularly re-read their writing out loud.  The focus for improvement is with compositional features rather than the transcriptional.

Having developed a whole school writing strategy in the autumn term our focus this term is to create a spelling strategy.

Wrap Around Care
Please also see the attached Charging Policies for wrap around care in school.  Both policies are on the website.  Wrap around care charges from 27.04.17 will be £5 an hour.

The policies detail the separate costs for each club.

PTA Cake Stall
Thank you to everyone who donated and bought cakes at Chestnut Class Cake Stall last week, £49.17 was raised.

Future Cake Stall dates are:

30th March – Elm Class

27th April – Oak Class

25th May – Willow Class (PTA to confirm).

Easter Bonnets and Easter Egg Competitions

On Friday 7th April we will be having our annual Easter competitions.  Nursery, Reception, Years 1 and 2 can enter a decorated Easter bonnet, and KS2 in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 can decorate an Easter ‘egg’.

There will be one first prize and one runner up prize for each year group.

On the morning of the competition there will be tables in the hall for each year group to place their entry to be judged later that morning.  Please remember to name the entry with the year group discretely marked on it.

I am very grateful to the Foundation Governors Mrs Moulton and Mrs Smailes who have kindly agreed to the very difficult task of judging the competition!

Yours sincerely,

Mrs V Farby
